El Salvador is a fascinating country I’d been wanting to visit since I backpacked around Central America in 1991. At the time the country was still in the recovery process of a seven year long civil war and was unsafe to visit. At the time I told myself that I would definitely make a dedicated journey there once the situation had stabilized and it was safe to do so.
In 2004 I travelled through this small, very unvisited country for 2 weeks, traveling everywhere by local ‘chicken bus’. I had the opportunity to experience El Salvador’s most beautiful places, from the Pacific coast to the spectacular highlands where small villages lie waiting to be explored along the country’s famed ‘Ruta De Las Flores’.
