Mexico is a country that I fell in love with a number of years ago. There are many facets to this beautiful country, from the war torn north near the US border where a war on drug cartels has led to over 47,000 deaths within the past 7 years, to the stunningly beautiful colonial towns and cities of the Mexican heartland. Further south, beautiful beaches are what most foreign visitors to Mexico are the most familiar with, along thousands of miles of Pacific, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean coastlines. Most tourists see very little more than all inclusive hotels on beaches. They are missing out on the culture, people, food and vibrancy of this wonderful country.
Drawn to Mexico after a few visits to the colonial heartland and Yucatan Peninsula, I decided in 2005 to buy a house in a small fishing village in Yucatan state. This has become my little piece of paradise and I have visited well over 20 times in the past 7 years.
It’s somewhere I’ll continue to return to time and time again. I love the simplicity of life there. The people are gentle and kind, the weather is fantastic and the food is delicious.
Here is a selection of my favorite photos from this lovely country.
